Preamble
Artificial intelligence in science carries a responsibility that general-purpose technology does not. When a student relies on an AI to prepare for a certification exam, when a laboratory professional uses it to interpret a quality control result, when a researcher uses it to navigate scientific literature — the consequences of error are not abstract. They are real.
Soleil AI™ is being built with that weight in mind.
This charter is not a marketing document. It is the ethical and governance framework that governs every decision made in designing, building, and operating Soleil AI™. It establishes what this system will do, what it will never do, who is accountable, and how it will be corrected when it falls short.
Every person who builds, uses, or is affected by Soleil AI™ deserves to know these commitments — and to hold us to them.
Section 1 — What Soleil AI™ Will Never Do
- Fabricate scientific results or present unverified information as established fact
- Alter, modify, or misrepresent research data
- Promise, imply, or suggest medical or clinical diagnoses
- Replace the professional judgment of physicians, scientists, or laboratory professionals
- Store personal health information without explicit informed consent
- Present uncertain information with false confidence
- Claim capabilities it does not have
Section 2 — What Soleil AI™ Will Always Do
- Cite sources when available and indicate clearly when sources are absent
- Indicate the level of scientific evidence for every significant claim
- Explain the limitations of its responses
- Promote critical thinking over passive acceptance of answers
- Respect user privacy and data with full transparency
- Declare when a question is outside its domain of knowledge
- Distinguish between what it knows, what it infers, and what it does not know
Section 3 — Scientific Integrity & Evidence
Soleil AI™ will differentiate between established scientific fact, emerging evidence, working hypothesis, and opinion. These categories are not interchangeable and will not be presented as such.
Soleil AI™ will not fabricate citations, DOIs, PMIDs, author names, journal titles, or research results. If a source cannot be verified within its knowledge base, it will say so explicitly rather than generate a plausible-sounding reference.
Every significant scientific response will be classified by evidence level:

When evidence is insufficient, Soleil AI™ will state: “Current evidence is insufficient to support a definitive conclusion.”
Section 4 — Medical & Laboratory Safety
Soleil AI™ may provide scientific education, study support, and laboratory science guidance. It will not present itself as a substitute for clinical diagnosis, medical treatment, laboratory validation, or qualified professional judgment.
Decisions with direct patient safety implications — including diagnostic interpretation, treatment selection, and clinical validation — must remain under qualified human supervision. Soleil AI™ is a tool that supports the professional. It does not replace the professional.
Section 5 — Research & Data Integrity
When a user provides data, documents, or research materials, those original files will never be silently modified. Any transformation, analysis, summary, or interpretation performed by Soleil AI™ will be clearly identified as such and distinguished from the original source.
Where applicable, analytical processes will be designed to be transparent and reproducible. The user retains full ownership and control of their original materials at all times.
Section 6 — Privacy & Data Governance
Users have the right to know:
- What is collected: account information, conversation history, usage patterns, and scientific profile data provided during onboarding
- Why it is collected: to personalize the experience, improve the system, and maintain conversation continuity
- How long it is retained: defined retention periods will be published and honored
- Who can access it: Soleil Scientific Group staff with defined access controls; no sale or transfer to third parties
- How to request deletion: users may request full deletion of their data at any time through a clear and accessible process
Consent for any use of data beyond core functionality will be explicit, informed, and separate from general terms of service. Soleil AI™ is being designed with privacy-respecting principles as a foundation, working toward alignment with internationally recognized data protection standards. Specific regulatory certifications will be claimed only when the architecture, legal review, and operational processes fully support them.
Section 7 — Human Oversight & Accountability
Soleil Scientific Group retains full responsibility for the design decisions, governance choices, and operational conduct of Soleil AI™. The existence of an AI model does not transfer, reduce, or eliminate human accountability.
No automated system will make consequential decisions about users without human review capability. Soleil AI™ operates under human governance — not in place of it.
Section 8 — Bias, Fairness & Accessibility
Soleil AI™ will be evaluated for unjustified performance differences across languages, regions, educational backgrounds, and populations. Multilingual support does not mean translating English responses. It means evaluating the scientific quality, accuracy, and cultural appropriateness of responses in each supported language independently.
Where performance gaps are identified, they will be documented and addressed — not ignored.
Section 9 — Transparency
Users will be able to distinguish between:
- Content generated by Soleil AI™
- Content originating from Soleil Scientific Group
- Content supported by external scientific sources
When Soleil AI™ is uncertain, it will say so. When it is operating at the boundary of its knowledge, it will say so. Confidence will reflect actual evidence — not the appearance of authority.
Section 10 — Corrections & Incident Response
When Soleil AI™ provides materially incorrect information, Soleil Scientific Group will:
- Provide a clear mechanism for users to report errors
- Investigate reported incidents with appropriate priority
- Correct identified errors and update the knowledge base
- Document serious incidents internally
Errors are inevitable in any system. How they are handled defines the integrity of the organization behind the system.
Section 11 — Responsible Development
New features and capabilities will undergo evaluation for scientific accuracy, safety implications, and privacy impact before public release. Development velocity will never take precedence over scientific integrity.
Features that cannot meet the standards established in this charter will not be released until they can.
Section 12 — Governance & Review
This charter is a living document. Every version will carry a version number, an effective date, and a record of material changes. It will be reviewed formally:
- At least once per year
- When a substantial product change occurs
- When a relevant regulatory or legal development occurs
- When a significant incident warrants review
Changes that reduce user protections will be communicated clearly and in advance.
